Files by Google: Find Large Files Before Deleting
Review Android large-file suggestions and understand what cleanup does before confirming removal.
Use Files by Google to find and review local downloads, large files and cleanup suggestions. It is not a backup service or a way to erase every app’s private data.
Start with a file review
- Open Menu → Clean and look for the large-file card.
- Choose Select files and preview the candidates. Save wanted files elsewhere before selecting their sources.
- Read the confirmation, then remove only the items you understand. Some cleanup actions permanently delete data; do not assume every action uses Trash.
Know the limits
- Suggestions depend on the files and access available on your phone.
- App-managed downloads may need removal inside the original app.
- A scan does not prove a personal file is safe to delete.
- Clearing files is not the same as backing them up.
If the storage figure is mainly app data, use the Android storage checklist rather than deleting unrelated downloads.
Check the result
Return to Settings → Storage. If selected files remain in Trash, review them before permanent deletion. If the large category is unchanged, identify its app instead of running repeated cleanups.
