Find the Largest Files on Your Android
Locate bulky downloads and media, preview the files and decide what can safely go.
A large app and a large file are not the same thing. Use a file manager for downloaded files; use the app’s own settings for private app data.
Find and review large files
- Open Files by Google → Menu → Clean.
- Under Delete large files, choose Select files. Available suggestions depend on your device and files.
- Open or preview each candidate. Check its name, location and contents, not just its size.
- Save important files elsewhere and open those copies before selecting the originals for removal.
- Read the confirmation before moving selected files to Trash. Do not empty Trash until you are certain.
These labels follow Files by Google’s large-file instructions. You can also use your existing file manager: open Downloads and sort by size if that option is available.
If the file is not listed
- WhatsApp media: review storage by chat inside WhatsApp.
- Offline films, music or maps: remove the download from the app that saved it.
- App data: check Settings → Apps → the app → Storage. A file manager may not have access to it; do not use Clear data just to find out what it contains.
Keep or remove?
Old installers and unwanted exports may be removable after review. Personal videos, receipts and work documents deserve a verified copy first. Use the photo backup checklist for media; for documents, a computer or Google Drive can hold a separate copy.
Check the result
Return to Android Storage after cleanup. If free space has not increased, check whether the items remain in Trash. Permanent deletion removes that recovery route, so verify first. If the biggest category is still Apps rather than Files, continue with the Android storage steps instead of deleting more personal media.
