iPhone Storage Full? What to Clear First
Use iPhone Storage to choose the right action for apps, photos, downloads or System Data.
Make one change in the category that is actually full. You may be able to remove replaceable downloads without touching personal photos.

Open Settings → General → iPhone Storage and wait for the chart. Start with the largest category: app downloads, Photos or System Data. iCloud capacity is separate from the space on your iPhone.

- Downloaded cloud files: online files can also have local copies.
- System Data: system-managed content, not a folder a cleaner can empty.
What you can try before installing another app
- Note available space in iPhone Storage and tap a large app.
- Remove unwanted offline videos, music or maps through their app. Check that they are replaceable.
- Consider Offload App when the app itself is large: its documents and data remain. Delete App also removes associated data, so save anything needed first.
- Review offered storage recommendations rather than enabling every suggestion.
- Return to iPhone Storage and compare available space after it updates.

Manage local photos
You do not need a third-party app to inspect iPhone storage. In Files, Remove Download, where offered for a cloud file, is different from deleting the file from its cloud location. Check the confirmation and destination before acting.
Back up or optimize wanted files
For an iCloud Photos library, use Optimize iPhone Storage with sufficient iCloud capacity. Do not delete wanted photos from Apple Photos to keep them only in iCloud.

Will buying more iCloud space fix this immediately?
No. It changes cloud capacity, not the physical device. Photo optimization may reduce local usage after syncing, but it is not an instant fixed saving.
Why did offloading recover little space?
Documents & Data stays on the device. Check that figure before expecting a large saving from offloading.
What if the iPhone still cannot update or save files?
Recheck the largest category and follow its guide. If safe cleanup does not help, contact Apple Support rather than repeatedly deleting personal data.
